PM unveils plan to build prosperous Qatari society

REALISING the need for combined efforts for the Qatar National Vision 2030, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani has assured strengthened co-ordination and harmonisation across all government ministries and agencies.

Speaking at the launch of Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV), he said initiatives were underway to achieve co-ordination.

“Achievement of QNV is a collective responsibility that will be led by the state, in partnership with the private sector, civil society and academia,” Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani said.

“The government will strengthen partnerships among all sectors and co-ordinate economic and social policies to build a more progressive and prosperous Qatari society,” he said.

He noted that “this calls for good co-operation with the General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP).”

The GSDP was established in 2006, through an Emiri Decree, to provide leadership for the co-ordination of Qatar’s development plans and strategies in all sectors. As a first step, QNV was formulated and approved by HH the Emir. It was officially launched yesterday by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, where a two-day seminar, with the aim of chalking out a national strategy, also began.

“The launch of QNV at this seminar paves the way for the preparation of our national strategy, that will represent a framework and a driving force to achieve the outcomes of sustainable development, when implemented,” the Prime Minister said.

The strategy is to enhance capacity building in the areas of planning, design and implementation of policies by public administration and improve governance. It will also include mechanisms for monitoring, evaluating and ensuring accountability.

“We are fully committed at all levels of government to the national strategy. QNV was formulated for you and is owned by you. Thus, I call upon you to work together to realise the Vision’s goals,” he added.

Earlier, GSDP director general, Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim al-Thani, welcomed the audience including international participants for the seminar and called the launch a “momentous occasion.”

Further, he elaborated on the four pillars of QNV: Human, social, economic and environmental development.

“In the midst of a severe global financial crisis, which is unprecedented in living memory, QNV provides us with a steadying compass that charts future directions that should contribute to a stable and prosperous economy,” Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor al-Thani said.

Starting yesterday, GSDP is reporting regularly on progress towards QNV on its new website www.gsdp.gov.qa
